Communities in Akobo unite to welcome internally displaced families fleeing violence from Walgak, Yuai, and Waat following recent clashes.

Following recent clashes between SSPDF and SPLM-IO forces in parts of Jonglei State, thousands of civilians were forced to flee their homes in Walgak, Yuai, and Waat. Many families undertook dangerous journeys before reaching Akobo, where they sought safety and protection. The majority arrived with little more than what they could carry, facing urgent humanitarian needs. Upon arrival in Akobo, displaced families were received by host communities, local authorities, and humanitarian actors who worked together to ensure a safe and dignified reception. Immediate support focused on temporary shelter, access to clean water, and essential household items, with particular attention given to women, children, the elderly, and persons with disabilities. The solidarity shown by the Akobo community played a critical role in easing the suffering of newly arrived families. Beyond emergency assistance, efforts are ongoing to support the recovery and wellbeing of displaced households. Psychosocial support services, protection interventions, and community engagement activities are being strengthened to help families cope with trauma and rebuild stability. The organization continues to advocate for peaceful resolution of the conflict and sustained support for internally displaced persons residing in Akobo.
